The GistMag Shopify app automatically generates AI-powered alt text for product images in your Shopify store, improving accessibility and SEO.

Installation

From Shopify App Store

  1. Log in to your Shopify admin
  2. Go to Apps → App and sales channel settings
  3. Click Shopify App Store
  4. Search for “GistMag”
  5. Click Add app
  6. Click Install app

Configuration

  1. After installation, go to the GistMag app in your Shopify admin
  2. Connect your GistMag account or create a new one
  3. Configure settings:
    • Auto-generate: Enable automatic generation for new products
    • Default Mode: Choose Short, Long, or SEO mode
    • Language: Select default language
  4. Click Save

Usage

Automatic Generation

When enabled, alt text is automatically generated when:
  • New products are created
  • Product images are added
  • Products are updated

Manual Generation

  1. Go to Products in your Shopify admin
  2. Click on a product
  3. Scroll to the Images section
  4. Click Generate Alt Text on any image
  5. Choose your mode and click Generate

Bulk Processing

  1. Go to the GistMag app in your Shopify admin
  2. Click Bulk Process
  3. Select products or all products
  4. Choose mode and language
  5. Click Start Processing

Mode Guide

Short Mode

  • Best for: Product thumbnails, gallery images
  • Length: 50-100 characters
  • Example: “Blue cotton t-shirt”

Long Mode

  • Best for: Main product images, detailed shots
  • Length: 100-200 characters
  • Example: “Blue cotton t-shirt with round neck and short sleeves, displayed on a white background”

SEO Mode

  • Best for: All product images (recommended)
  • Features: Includes product keywords and attributes
  • Example: “Blue cotton t-shirt - men’s casual wear - summer clothing”
SEO mode is recommended for Shopify stores as it helps improve search engine rankings while maintaining accessibility.

Pricing & Limits

The Shopify integration uses your GistMag subscription credits. Check your usage in the GistMag app or your Dashboard.

  • Verify your GistMag account is connected
